A word adopted from the German by many English and American petrographers to designate a round or lenticular nodule, either a single mineral particle or an aggregate, often found in gneissic or schistose rocks, which in comparison with the inclosing finer-grained material produces an appearance compared to that of an eye. The term eye is less extensively used in this sense.
