Cognate with North Frisian frod, Saterland Frisian frod, Dutch vroed (“wise, knowing”), Swedish frod (“wise, experienced, mature”), Icelandic fróður (“knowledgeable”), Lithuanian prõtas (“mind, reason, understanding”).
